Your iPhone Needs a Job
How to Automate Your Mornings with ChatGPT + Shortcuts
Every morning, my iPhone and ChatGPT have a meeting without me. They check my weather, unread emails, calendar events, and reminders, then ChatGPT builds me a clean summary text. All before I wake up.
Most people spend their first 20 minutes of the day in a reactive scrolling, checking, catching up. This system buys your focus back.
A few months ago I wrote about this shortcut and it became one of my most-read pieces. The DMs I got? “…but HOW do I actually build this?” So I made you a video and walk through the step-by-step setup.
The System
This shortcut runs in 4 parts:
Gather: Pull data from Weather, Mail, Calendar, Reminders
Summarize: Send everything to ChatGPT with custom instructions
Text: Deliver the summary as a text message
Automate: Set it to run every morning without you
Here’s what it does: Every morning, your iPhone checks your weather, unread emails, calendar events, and reminders, then sends everything to ChatGPT, which builds you a clean summary text. All before you wake up. No more opening 5 different apps. No more 20 minutes of morning admin.
The prompt that handles the summary:
You are reviewing emails, events and tasks, then prioritizing today's critical updates.
For weather: only include today's low, high, and whether it's going to rain.
For emails: only include messages written to me by a person.
For events: just the time and name.
Output this as a summary in 1-2 sentences using hyphens as line breaks between sections. If you’ve got an iPhone and ChatGPT, you can set this up in about 10 minutes.
Also, I’m launching a YouTube channel for exactly this: visual breakdowns of the automation systems I build. This is video number one. If you want more iPhone shortcuts, AI workflows, and systems that make your phone work for you, subscribe. I’ll be dropping these weekly.
And if you missed the original article I wrote back in October, here it is.
Drop a comment on YouTube and let me know what Shortcut you want me to build next!

Congrats on the YT channel launch! 🚀
Could you do this with Claude?
